Cook Time: 10 - 15 mins
Serves: 3-4
Potato pancakes are a beloved classic of Polish cuisine, traditionally fried in plenty of oil for a crispy finish. This recipe takes a lighter, more modern approach by using a cast iron plancha on a gas grill, creating beautifully golden pancakes with a deliciously crisp exterior while adding a subtle grilled flavour. Perfect for enjoying outdoors, this method delivers all the comfort of the traditional dish with a fresh barbecue-inspired touch.
Ingredients
Ingredients
1 kg potatoes
2 eggs
1 large onion
1 tablespoon cream 18%
2 tablespoons wheat flour
1 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
Instructions
- Grate your peeled potatoes and onions on a small-meshed grater, transfer to a strainer to drain.
- After 10 minutes, a starchy mass will form at the bottom of the strainer which we will use to prepare the pancakes.
- Pour out the liquid and mix the remaining mass with the grated potatoes.
- Add eggs, cream, flour and season with salt and pepper.
- Stir and fry on the grill.
- For frying potato pancakes on a gas grill we will use the cast iron griddle or plancha. Fire up the burners under the griddle and turn the knobs to medium.
- Spray the heated griddle with oil, and apply your pancake batter. The thickness of the pancakes depends on individual preferences, so we will leave this up to you.
- Fry your pancakes for 4-5 minutes on one side, then 5-8 minutes on the other side.
- Place any cooked pancakes up on the warming shelf to wait until you finishing frying the rest.
Serve with your favourite sides.
