Experience the sweet, savoury, and slightly spicy flavours of Japan with these Beef Teriyaki Shish Kebabs. Juicy beef cubes are marinated in a glossy teriyaki sauce, paired with fresh pineapple and red onion, then grilled to perfection. Serve with optional pineapple salsa or sprinkle with sesame, chives, or coriander for extra flavour.

Ingredients

500 g beef (sirloin, tenderloin, or entrecote)
2 slices fresh pineapple
1 red onion
1/3 cup teriyaki sauce
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 cm fresh ginger, grated

Optional Toppings & Sides:
Sesame seeds, chives, or coriander
Grilled pineapple slices
Pineapple salsa (recipe below)

Instructions

1. Marinate the Beef
Mix teriyaki sauce with grated ginger and crushed garlic.
Cut beef into large cubes and place in a bowl or resealable bag.
Pour marinade over beef and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2. Prepare the Vegetables & Pineapple
Peel and slice pineapple into bite-sized pieces.
Cut red onion into 6 wedges and separate layers.

3. Assemble the Skewers
Thread marinated beef onto skewers, alternating with pineapple and red onion.
Sprinkle a little salt over the assembled skewers.

Mix remaining marinade with 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup for brushing during grilling.

4. Grill the Kebabs
Preheat the grill to 250°C (480°F).
Grill skewers indirectly for 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally.
Brush skewers with remaining marinade 2–3 minutes before finishing.

Optionally, grill extra pineapple slices, brushing with marinade.

5. Make Pineapple Salsa (Optional)
Dice fresh or grilled pineapple.
Mix with finely chopped red onion and chilli.
Drizzle with lemon juice and honey, then add chopped mint.
